Porsche 992 GT3 R Hungaroring HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of the Hungaroring in the Porsche 992 GT3 R driven by HYMO.

The Track

Nestled in the rolling hills near Budapest, the Hungaroring circuit presents a unique tapestry of racing challenges. It's a serpentine maze of slow, technical corners weaving through scenic vistas, requiring a mastery of nuanced throttle and brake control. The track's character, reminiscent of a grand chessboard, demands strategic acumen from drivers, where precision outshines raw speed. Hosting the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix, it's a venue where the subtle dance of aerodynamics and tire strategy unfolds, offering a spectacle of skilful navigation through its labyrinthine layout.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap to one of the Track Titan community drivers at the penultimate hairpin. Here we can see the use of the V-Line, primarily by the community driver. The data shows they are able to brake later and deeper into the corner, but end up dropping to a lower minimum speed because of the sharper V-Line. In this case the technique does not help them because they are unable to benefit from the corner exit momentum because there is a corner immediately after. They also run too wide on the exit. This cost 0.1s of lap time overall.

Hot Laps Top Tips

Mitigating wheelspin, even with traction control, involves understanding and managing the balance between power application and grip. Traction control systems limit power to prevent wheelspin, but they are not fool proof. Effective mitigation requires smooth, progressive throttle application, especially in low-traction conditions. Drivers should be aware of their vehicle's power delivery characteristics and adjust their throttle inputs accordingly. Additionally, maintaining optimal tire conditions and understanding the track surface can also play a crucial role in reducing wheelspin. It's about harmonising driver inputs with the vehicle's technological aids to achieve the best traction.
