Ivo Correia - Race Plan No. 1

Conclusion

There are some really impressive lines in this session, however I notice a trend of yours, where you trail off the brakes earlier than you maybe should. An area to focus on then should be braking, try practicing a hard initial application, but then only trailing off once you begin your turn in

Set Up Advice

Baku is a confusing track when it comes to setup. Some super tight corners intertwined with massively long straights. You seem to have a really nice balance, but make sure that the car is comfortable when applying the throttle. This can be done by raising the differential settings or decreasing rear camber. But make sure that this doesn't affect the cornering capabilities of the car.

Segment 1 - "T1"

☐ Your line throughout is much tighter than the reference lap, which will sacrifice entry and exit speed. This means you need to brake earlier and accelerate later, which is not ideal. By extending both the entry and exit, there is much less time spent off the throttle.

Segment 2 - "T2"

☐ You spend much less time at full braking, and this will mean that you don't slow down quite as much. I also see some understeer at the apex, which will hinder your ability to accelerate well. For F1 cars, you can be aggressive on the brakes initially, before trailing off to turn in. Remember, it's always better to over-slow the car than to under-slow.

Segment 3 - "T3"

☐ Your line here is very good, but braking comes early and acceleration comes late. Your line means you preserve more speed though, but just make sure that you can still make your way back over to the left hand side before braking for the next corner.

Segment 4 - "T4"

☐ Similarly to turn 2, your braking doesn't seem powerful enough, and it causes you to understeer quite a lot through the apex. Try to brake hard initially, before trailing off as you begin to turn in. This will help navigate you towards the apex, and will mean you can accelerate earlier as well.

Segment 5 - "T5, T6"

☐ Your line and acceleration is actually very good here, although your braking comes too early and leads to you over-slowing for the corner. You can afford to brake slightly later and maintain the same line.

Segment 6 - "T7"

☐ Your line is very good, but again I see that your braking is released very early on. Try to hold the brakes at full for longer. It will mean that you can brake later overall. I also see that your acceleration starts earlier, but it means that to avoid understeer, you have to accelerate slower. Try to postpone your throttle application until you can apply it quicker and straighter.

Segment 7 - "T8,T9,T10,T11,T12"

☐ Your braking on entry has a similar theme to the previous corners, you don't quite brake enough. This means that you get understeer during the first apex, forcing you to slow more. It is also important to get to the left hand side before turning in for the right hander at the top of the hill. This will give you an opportunity to accelerate well out of the next two corners.

Segment 8 - "T13,T14"

☐ This section is flat, and driven very well.

Segment 9 - "T15"

☐ You have driven this section very well, although it seems like your acceleration is slightly delayed. Make sure you can rotate the car enough during the corner to help accelerate earlier.

Segment 10 - "T16,T17"

☐ Similarly to turn 15, your line and braking is very good, although your throttle response is delayed again. Your initial phase of acceleration matches that of the reference lap, but then you seem to slow your acceleration, and even lift off slightly at a point. Make sure you're in a position to accelerate smoothly and quickly, especially when leading onto a bit straight like this one.

Segment 11 - "T18,T19,T20"

☐ This section is flat and driven very nicely.
