Andrii Pechuliak - Training Plan No. 1

Goal

Improve overall race skill.

Conclusion

Really good to get this first training in. The telemetry highlights a number of errors that can be practiced. Both braking and acceleration need to be examined.

Assigned Task

Drive on a track of your choice, preferably one that you are comfortable with. Really try to get full pressure on the brake pedal. You should be aiming for 100% braking on most corners so that you utilize the full power of those brakes. It'll mean you have longer on the track at high speeds which will bring your lap times down. The throttle work is a little harder try to delay just a little getting on the power as it is better to be later on the power and at 100% throttle quicker than having to come off the brakes a bit due to the car understeering and you running out of track. Refer back to the reference lap to see exactly when they are engaging the throttle.

1st key mistake: Too late to full throttle
Why it matters

Full throttle is where the speed is. As long as you have control, the general aim is to get to full throttle as quickly as possible.

How much of a problem it is for you

With 29% of your mistakes arising from 'late to full throttle', it is important to study this area.

Segment 2 is a good example of how you apply your throttle. Here you lose a quarter of a second by being a little too impatient (see mistake below) and then take a little longer to get to full throttle.

Learn to improve

Take a moment to watch one of our videos that emphasises the need to get to full throttle quickly.  Think smooth but fast, on /off the throttle will nearly always be slower than quick and smooth.

2nd key mistake: Too early on the throttle
Why it matters

Being too early on the throttle is a contradictory mistake. You want to get the full gas quickly but not at the expense of possible wheel spin or having to come off the gas.

How much of a problem it is for you

An important mistake at 19% of your errors through this training session.

Segment 3 highlights that you are getting on the throttle too early here.

Learn to improve

Each time that there a lift or dab, it indicates a lack of smoothness.  Very hard to achieve perfection but any time that you have a change that is more than 10% pressure needs to be looked at. Be patient getting on the throttle each time, if you start accelerating too early you'll create understeer and struggle to stay on track, or you'll need to lift the gas pedal.

3rd key mistake: Not enough brake
Why it matters

Occasionally you fail to get full pressure on the brake, forcing you to brake just that little bit longer.

How much of a problem it is for you

Nearly 40% of your mistakes are braking errors. 10% of these are related to not enough brake force.

See an example in your own sessions

Please check out segment 4, your braking is around 80%. This means that you have to stay on the brakes longer to get the car slowed for the corner.

Learn to improve

It is generally better to get to full braking quicker than using less braking and having to stay on the brakes longer.  Full brakes (no lockup), time your turn in, then trail brake into the corner turn
