Alan Kietzman - Training Plan No. 3

Goal

Get comfortable without using assists. Improve my lap times so I feel able to compete in leagues.

Conclusion

Errors seen this week indicate an impatience to hold back a little and then get on the gas when you are just past the apex. Make sure you also don't lose too much speed in the higher speed corners. Big gains can be made by really keeping an eye on your gearing.

Assigned Task

First task is to get your gearing locked in. Memorise the gears of the corners and don't be tempted to drop lower. Practice this memory test for 3 laps at a time then refer back to the analysis to check for how accurate you were... secondly practice your exits this is has two parts. First the engagement point, don't go too early. Then ensure a smooth but quick acceleration. Remember it is when you get to 100% throttle that is important.

1st key mistake: Too late to full throttle
Why it matters

Often referred to a the prime goal of every racing driver. Getting to 100% throttle is essential to create and give yourself maximum time to get those top speeds on the straights.

How much of a problem it is for you

With 19% of your mistakes coming from 'late to full throttle', we have to keep pushing this.

Look at segment 5.  The reference lap is getting more throttle down than you at this stage, especially in the middle part to late part of the acceleration phase.

Learn to improve

Be extremely conscious of when you are on the throttle and when you just ease off, even if it just a little bit. You do well in segment 5 but there is still room to accelerate just that little bit quicker.

2nd key mistake: Too early on the throttle
Why it matters

Being too early on the throttle is a contradictory mistake. You want to get the full gas quickly but not at the expense of possible wheel spin or having to come off the gas.

How much of a problem it is for you

Not a large mistake at only 16% of your errors through this training session.

Segment 3 highlights that you are getting on the throttle just a little too early here.

Learn to improve

Each time that there a lift or dab, it indicates a lack of smoothness.  Very hard to achieve perfection but any time that you have a change that is more than 10% pressure needs to be looked at.

3rd key mistake: Gear too low
Why it matters

There are many situations on track where it is better to run the car in a higher gear to gain full potential from the engine.

How much of a problem it is for you

Gearing errors in general accounted for over 15% of your total errors.

See an example in your own sessions

Segment 1 shows how using 2nd gear on S1 is 2 gears lower than the reference lap.

Learn to improve

If the car is feeling sluggish or is revving too high, this is a good indication that you are in too low a gear.  If you feel this might be the case, start a new session and drive two laps, first in the suspected wrong gear and then one gear higher.  Check out your live delta, it'll give you your answer.
