Wildson Dantas - Race Plan No.1

Conclusion

There are some impressive and fluid lines on show here, so well done for them. There seems to be a consistent slight delay on your throttle input, and it seems like your setup maybe doesn't allow you to carry speed through some of the corners, particularly in sector 1. You can see below to get an idea of what a setup for Suzuka should be like.

Set Up Advice

Suzuka is a tricky circuit to find the right setup for. There are a lot of medium speed long corners, meaning that downforce will be medium to high, and antiroll bars can be set fairly low.

Segment 1

☐ I can see that for the first section, you lift off and brake slightly for the first apex. However, providing you take a fairly shallow line, you can brake after the first apex, and this will help you carry speed into these two corners. Your acceleration comes slightly early for the line that you're on, and it causes understeer which eventually causes you to lift off. Try to be a little more patient on the throttle, and this will help you to have a smoother exit, and will gain you speed quicker.

Segment 2

☐ This segment is a complex one, so this may be a long explanation. Overall, you seem to be more tentative on the throttle than the reference lap, with more occasions of lifts and half-throttles. Your braking for the first instance is practically identical to the reference lap, but your delayed throttle on exit means that the car doesn't naturally follow the ideal racing line. This will end up losing you time. Your next apex is good, but your acceleration is slow and it causes the car to again not naturally follow the ideal line. Again, this will end up losing you time. Your last apex however is good, but with a small hesitation on the throttle. Overall, it seems like you're lacking the grip through here to be able to push enough.

Segment 3

☐ Through here, your line is good, if a little tighter than it needs to be. But again, you don't appear to have the grip to take this corner at the right speed, as you lift off a considerable amount more than the reference lap. Try to rectify this, and refer to the setup tips at the top of the page for pointers.

Segment 4

☐ Your line and braking through here is practically perfect, but the release of the brakes comes slightly late and you seem tentative to get on the throttle again. This could either be down to confidence, or it could be setup again.

Segment 5

☐ Similarly to before, your line is good through here, however your peak braking force doesn't match that of the reference lap, and it causes you to brake for a little longer overall. This gives a small bit of understeer, which in turn scrubs off even more speed. It also makes it harder to accelerate, so don't be afraid to be a little more aggressive on the brake here initially.

Segment 6

☐ You set up for this segment really well, and your braking point is spot on. However, like before, your peak braking force doesn't match the reference lap. For a corner with such a heavy braking zone, make sure you're using all the available force to shorten the time you spend off the throttle. Your line throughout is nice, but your throttle application arrives slightly late.

Segment 7

☐ This section is driven flat out but your line is very wide. Try to drive the corner as tight as you can to reduce the distance travelled.

Segment 8

☐ Initially, your braking and line is again spot on, very nicely driven. Again though, you seem tentative to get on the throttle again after the first apex, hovering at around half throttle, whereas the reference lap is closer to 85%. Your braking for the second apex is nicely timed again, however because of the lack of speed compared to the reference lap, you have the grip to turn in earlier. This corner, due to the elevation change, relies on a late apex, so try to hold the car out wide before fully turning in. This will help you to avoid understeer and slingshot you down the next straight.

Segment 9

☐  This segment is flat out and driven well.

Segment 10

☐ Your braking comes early again, and you don't seem to hold at 100% for a while, which will lessen the impact of your braking. Try to hold the brakes at 100% until you start turning into the corner. The reference lap does a small brake before the second apex, and this actually helps them to turn in slightly. You have a small amount of understeer, which delays your throttle input by a small amount. Maybe it would help you to try the reference lap's brake trick to get that slight bit of extra rotation.
