Josh Chrvala - Race Plan No. 3

Conclusion

The biggest step forward now is putting your effort into braking technique. Work your way through the list of segments and you'll see that there are a mixture of issues that you can address. Recognise what type of corner it is and try to apply the braking accordingly. Is it downhill, uphill, fast or slow?

Set Up Advice

No specific setup changes required based on the telemetry data.

Circuit of the Americas GP - USA

Segment 1 - "T1"

☐ You are braking too early and then getting off the brakes way too quickly. The corner is an uphill corner so you can use this to your advantage and brake later. This is a corner where you suddenly lose grip at the top. So hold on to the brakes a little longer to get the speed down. Shift down to third so it can also help you lower the speed.

Segment 2 - "T2"

☐ Nicely done ust get a bit closer to the apex.

Segment 3 - "T3, T4, T5, T6"

☐ In the S-corner you do not need to brake in the third corner. It is enough for you to lift off the throttle just a little. The last right hander is where you will need to quickly tap on the brakes when you do the first three corners right. Don't shift to 5th either, you can keep it in 6th.

Segment 4 - "T7, T8, T9"

☐ Keep it tighter at the exit of segment 3 so you can open up the corner for the left turn. When doing this you won't need to brake so harsh nor shift down to 4th. You will be able to carry more speed. On the right turn you are braking too late. Brake earlier since it is a type of chicane. Keep it tight in the first part so you can focus on the exit instead.

Segment 5 - "T10, T11"

☐ You are braking too early and pressing the brake pedal too slow. Hard on the brakes and then lift off slowly. turn a little more sharper so you can get on the power as early as possible. Since this is a long straight focus on the exit as much as possible.

Segment 6 - "T12"

☐ You are braking too early and pressing the pedal slowly. Shift down to third here so you can get a better acceleration on the exit. Use more of the exit as well.

Segment 7 - "T13, T14"

☐ You're pressing the brake pedal too slow here as well. You are also using way too high of a gear here. Do not use 5th here, go down to third instead.

Segment 8 - "T15"

☐ You are inkonsistent on the brakes. Since this is a corner where you need to turn as you brake you need to utilise trail braking here. Tapping the brakes will just make it harder for you. Go more outwards of the corner instead of turning so early. This will help you both have more speed and get on throttle quicker for your exit. Shift down to third here as well.

Segment 9 - "T16, T17, T18"

☐ Keep full throttle!

Segment 10 - "T19"

☐ Pressing the brake pedal too slow here. You are also getting on the throttle too slow here. A quick tap on the brakes is all you need.

Segment 11 - "T20"

☐ Pressing brake pedal too slow. You are also too early on throttle. Get on the power when you see the exit not when you see the apex.
