Christian Agape - Race Plan No. 5

Conclusion

Another very impressive lap that is mere tenths away from the reference lap. Critiquing laps like this is always hard, as the only improvements to be made are very small. The only real suggestion I can make is about your braking. There are times when your braking could benefit from being slightly more harsh, as this will help rotate the car better. Besides that, very nicely driven.

Set Up Advice

I mention at points during this plan that the reference lap appears to be using slightly more front end grip. This is noticeable at both medium and low speed corners, so try slightly softening your front suspension and maybe raising your front downforce as well. These only need to be minor changes, so try something like lowering your front ride height, softening your front anti-roll bar, or lowering your front camber.

Segment 1

☐ You have driven this very well, and your line is very nearly identical to the reference lap. The only difference I see is that for turn 2, you apex ever so slightly sooner. Unfortunately this actually causes you to run ever so slightly wide on exit, and you can't quite accelerate as quickly as the reference lap, so aim to take a slightly later apex here. Your braking is very nicely done.

Segment 2

☐ This is a fairly long segment, with four corners essentially rolled into one. The first corner is taken with a small lift but the next corner has a small brake. While your braking is perfect, you don't lift off as much as the reference lap. This does two things for you. Firstly, it delays your application after the corner, costing you speed. Secondly, it doesn't allow you to turn quiet as much, as the slight acceleration pushes the weight more onto the rear wheels, costing you a tiny amount of front grip. This is where most of your time is lost in this segment. For the next 2 corners, you seem to lift off more than the reference lap, but I believe this is more to do with your setup than your driving.

Segment 3

☐ This segment only requires a small lift as you crest the hill. Your lift is much larger than the reference lap's, and you don't quite make it to the apex as well as them either. Aim to hit the kerb as best you can here, and this will help you maintain speed around the long corner.

Segment 4

☐ This segment is mostly flat, save from a small braking point as you enter the first of the two Degners. The reference lap brakes much more harshly than you, and this helps them to rotate their car into the apex. You don't quite hit the apex as well as them as a result, and it costs you a small amount of time on exit. Try an earlier and harder brake, and this should naturally help you draw closer to the apex.

Segment 5

☐ Similarly to the previous segment, the reference lap brakes harder and earlier than you, helping them maintain speed while they turn. Aim to replicate this. Besides that, you drive this segment very well aside from the small amount of oversteer you appear to get on exit.

Segment 6

☐ This segment is almost flawless. Your braking is almost identical to the reference lap, and your line on entry is very close as well. however, you understeer slightly towards corner exit, and it means that you can't quite match the reference lap under acceleration. This may be due to setup again, as it seems that the reference lap has slightly more front grip.

Segment 7

☐ This segment is driven flat out.

Segment 8

☐ Through the first apex, you are further away from the apex than the reference lap, and the answer can be found in your braking. The reference lap again brakes harder than you, and this helps them turn in better, so aim to push the brakes slightly harder initially. However, your line through the second apex is actually better than the reference lap, and it helps you to get to full throttle slightly sooner.

Segment 9

☐ This segment is driven flat out.

Segment 10

☐ Your line throughout it just about perfect, aside from a small amount of understeer on the exit of the second apex. Your braking is almost identical to the reference lap, however their slight amount more front grip allows them to brake slightly later. The small understeer prevents you from accelerating quite as quickly as the reference lap, slowing your exit onto the straight.
