Joshua Wilson - Race Plan No. 1

Conclusion

Impressively, you have beaten the reference lap, so a very solid lap overall. However, some key areas to improve appear to be confidence during acceleration and lines during some tighter corners.

Set Up Advice

Baku is a confusing track when it comes to setup. Some super tight corners intertwined with massively long straights. You seem to have a really nice balance, but make sure that the car is comfortable when applying the throttle. This can be done by raising the differential settings or decreasing rear camber. But make sure that this doesn't affect the cornering capabilities of the car.

Baku City Circuit - Azerbaijan

--> Track Titan website - Segment analysis <--

Segment 1 - "T1"

☐ Your entry speed is much higher, so naturally you have braked earlier. Your release of the brakes also comes earlier, and this indicates that you could actually afford to brake slightly later. You also start turning slightly earlier, so taking a straighter line would further help you brake later. Lastly, it seems like you accelerated early, leading to a delay in the application. For a corner like this, it's important to be as smooth as you can.

Segment 2 - "T2"

☐ Your braking, throttle, and line are very good, however I see that your throttle application was a little slow compared to the reference lap. Given that a long straight follows, it's important to maximise the exit as much as you can. You can do this by possible taking an ever so slightly wider line through the apex, allowing you to straighten the car earlier.

Segment 3 - "T3"

☐ This corner is driven very well again, but I notice a slow throttle application again. You can use the same advice as the previous turn to help with this.

Segment 4 - "T4"

☐ For this corner, it's important to make your way to the left hand side of the track before braking. You haven't quite recovered from the exit of the previous corner, so your line on entry is much shallower than the reference lap. This means that you find it more difficult to hit the apex, and harder to accelerate out of the corner. Work on getting from the right hand side to the left hand side as efficiently as possible.

Segment 5 - "T5, T6"

☐ The line is very important here, and I notice a few mistakes that are really holding you back. On entry, the line is good, however after the first apex, you run wider than the reference lap. This then compromises your line for the second apex, meaning you brake more and take longer to get on the throttle again. Focus on widening your line for the second apex so that you can get on the throttle well out of the chicane.

Segment 6 - "T7"

☐ Your line throughout is very good, if a little wide. I notice that you brake much earlier, and you use 4th gear instead of 3rd. You can actually use the extra downshift to help slow the car down, meaning you can brake slightly later.

Segment 7 - "T8,T9,T10,T11,T12"

☐ Your braking and line on the way in, however you seem to keep a tighter line through the first apex and up the hill. Unfortunately, this sets you up slightly worse for the right hander at the top of the hill. Try to keep the car as wide as you can on the entry to this corner, and this will help with accelerating out of the next 2 apexes.

Segment 8 - "T13,T14"

☐ This section is flat and driven very well.

Segment 9 - "T15"

☐ Your line throughout is very good, however I see a slight lift off during your acceleration. Try your best to maximise this acceleration, and you can do this by slowly building confidence on the throttle lap after lap.

Segment 10 - "T16,T17"

☐ This section is driven very well, but I notice a small blip of the throttle in the middle of the corner, and this could promote understeer if not careful. Make sure you don't do anything that could unsettle the car.

Segment 11 - "T18,T19,T20"

☐ This section is flat and driven very nicely.
