Michael Dos Santos - Race Plan No. 11

Conclusion
It seems like you brake earlier than the reference lap a lot, so focus on building up confidence to brake later. There are also a few instances of you taking a shallower line than the reference lap, and often this costs you speed down one of the many long straights on this circuit. I can see some very promising throttle applications, showing that you have a good feel for grip. More practice will help you to carry this to more aspects of your lap, helping you to cut down lap times more and more.

Set Up Advice
The new layout of Abu Dhabi need more aerodynamic grip than previously. Especially for segment 9, make sure that you balance the front and rear downforce to minimise the time spent off the throttle here. The track is very smooth, so you can afford to make the suspension firm to help with speed down the straights.

Segment 1

☐ Initially, your line isn't as wide as the reference lap, effectively making the corner slightly tighter for you. You brake earlier but you release at the same time. Your release is much quicker though, which could cause understeer at some points, so make sure you are fast onto the brakes but smooth off. Because of how early you slowed, you can accelerate much sooner, which gains back some of the time you lost. However, try to maximise speed on the way into the turn, as this is much more effective at gaining time. Aim to brake later.

Segment 2

☐ This segment is driven flat out, although you could take a tighter line to minimise the distance you drive.

Segment 3

☐ Similarly to segment 1, your line is more shallow and your braking comes very early compared to the reference lap. This wide line taken by the reference lap will help accelerate away after this corner, so it will help if you brake later and try a slightly wider line on entry. I can also see a small input of the throttle just before the apex. This shows that there is definitely room to brake later, so put your focus towards nailing your braking point here.

Segment 4

☐ Besides the acceleration zone of the previous corner, this segment is driven flat out. Your acceleration was done very nicely.

Segment 5

☐ For this section, your braking is actually very well done, and your line initially is nearly flawless. However, after the first apex, you go slightly wide. This means that for the second apex, you have to lift off completely, which costs you a lot of time here and down the next straight. Aim to sacrifice the exit of the first apex to set yourself up for the second apex, and this will help you carry speed down the next long straight.

Segment 6

☐ Similarly to the first few segments, you have started braking much earlier than the reference lap. Also the reference lap never actually reaches full force, so it could help you to turn if you try doing the same. Your acceleration seems patchy, I can see a lot of times when you have to lift off, but you start accelerating very early. Try to make the acceleration slightly later and smoother, prioritise this so you can get a good exit.

Segment 7

☐ This segment is driven flat out.

Segment 8

☐ I can see that your braking begins much earlier than the reference lap again, and this is costing you a lot of time on entry. You can definitely afford to brake around 10 or 20 metres later, and make sure than you reach full force to help slow you down quicker. I can see a small blip of the throttle just before the apex, so make sure your entry is as smooth as it can be. Your acceleration out of the corner is good, but you lift off a lot for the following apex. Similarly, you accelerate well out of this apex, but lift off a lot again. Try to make you acceleration more consistent and smoother overall, this will help you bring your average speed up.

Segment 9

☐ The reference lap takes this corner flat out, but I see that you have quite a large lift off. This may be down to your setup, but try and take the corner with as short of a lift as you can get away with.

Segment 10

☐ For this layout of the track, this is the final segment. From what I can see, you take a long time from first application to reach full force. Try to make your application as quick as you can, helping shorten your time spent off the throttle. Your throttle application is very good, apart from a small blip before the apex. Make sure that the only acceleration comes after the apex, this will help you to get to full throttle sooner, and will help you to set yourself up for the next lap.

Segment 11

☐ For this layout of the track, there are only 10 segments.
