Instructor Notes

19/05/202 - 16/06/2026
We are ready to assess your practice sessions. Please provide us some laps and we'll check again on your next turnover day. To really learn a track in Sim racing, from our analysis of users data, between 30-50 laps in a week are required to improve significantly (depending on track length). The next Instructor notes will be provided when we have sessions to review. Thanks, and looking forward to seeing your improvements. 😊

This is a more irregular assignment, but an essential one. We're looking for at least 10 consecutive valid laps with lap times within 1s to 1.5s of each other. Your lap times are looking quite good and you don't have many invalid laps, which is great! Beware, however at Oulton Park your times were a bit all over the place, so try to get them closer to each other to improve your chances of passing this assignment. Good luck!

Extra - There are a number of segments where you need to be quicker on the transition from full throttle to full brakes. As you can see in this example, you reach full brake pressure after the reference lap even though you started braking before them. That first touch on the brakes needs to be very sharp and, in the case of heavy braking zones, you need to brake hard too. After that sharp input, you'll need to gradually release the pedal as soon as you turn into the corner. Continue that smooth and gradual motion as you increase the steering angle until you reach the apex.
This is the best way to slow the car down effectively, it'll allow you to brake later and carry more speed into the corners.

Please drive more laps. It isn't possible to get a fair and true reflection of this assessment without at least 30-50 laps being completed.  The instructors are ready to help you when you are ready.  Good luck and have fun on track. Your racing lines are starting to look like you know what you are doing. In most situations we want to open up the entry and exit of the corner so that when we clip the apex the path we travel has the largest possible radius. This allows you to carry the most possible speed through the corner. There are exceptions, for example in corner complexes, where sometimes a compromise is required. There are a few corners where you are still entering too tight, which costs you minimum speed. Lets keep working on this as you go into the next challenge - Consistency.

Extra - You often accelerate too late and that cost you a lot of time. You aren't as fast to 100% with your throttle which is affecting your top speed on the subsequent straight. Practice a fast but smooth acceleration all the way to 100% throttle using as much of the track exit as available so that you can have as straight a wheel as possible. This will allow the car to use most of it's power for forward acceleration. Example

----------------------

13/01/2025
You've got a solid foundation with your lines, though fine-tuning you could make them even sharper. Braking is on point, but there's potential in the chicanes for better acceleration. Aim for quick spurts of speed where you can, keeping in mind that how you exit these sections defines your success. When possible, consider only partially lifting off the throttle instead of fully disengaging, perhaps by 30-50%. Above all, focus on your exit speed, as it's the key to better lap times.

Extra - The goal is to make the corner as wide as possible to be able to carry more speed through it. To do that, you need to stay right on the edge of the track on the approach to the corner, stay wide until you reach a good turn-in point, then aim for the apex. On the exit the goal is usually the same: start accelerating near the apex and aim to go as wide as you can without going over the track limits. Don't be afraid to try to get on the kerbs, you can gain a lot of time by using them! Example

----------------------

31/12/2024
Nicely driven! You improved in these 4 key areas over the last few weeks. There will always to improvements and adjustments that you can make. It is all about fine tuning those braking points, racing line and throttle application. Your gears look decent but always check back to the telemetry. Learning really comes from driving, analysing and then driving again until you feel you've reached a wall then analysing again. This habit will really help you improve as quickly as possible.

Extra - Sometimes you're turning your steering wheel a bit too much, mainly in the tighter corners. This can cause a lot of understeer since you're essentially making the tyres slide on the track - scrubbing speed. Try to reduce your steering input and then slightly turn a little more each lap. Once you see that the car is not responding to your inputs, you've found the tyres' grip limit. Now you only need to stay under that limit. It looks like here you unwind the wheel in a step once you realise this instead of smoothly fixing your mistake. Example

Great corner gear choices. It is often the case that people change down too far in a belief that it will be faster however, you nailed this. So you've reached a milestone - well done! Your next weeks training, will be assessed on how well you perform with all the plans that you have driven so far. You are currently doing really well and should find this straight forward, just strive to increase your consistency and push for slightly quicker lap times. Good luck!

Extra - You are braking too early and sometimes not enough brake pressure. Try to think what type of corner you are entering and how you can optimise by braking differently by also tweaking your racing line. Example

----------------------

19/11/2024
Very nice, be careful how much pressure you apply on fast sweeping corners, it is important not to lose too much speed by braking too heavily, generally you are OK at this but a couple of mistakes were visible. Next up is your first acceleration technique, good luck and keep knocking out those laps, the more the better! 💪

Extra - Even though your apexes were really good, it is important also to get the width on entry and exit from the corners, work on this as you look at the second aspect of your braking. Example

Okay, you are hitting most of your apex's. The smoother you can be with your racing line the more you can distribute grip to all four tyres. There are a few areas you can tweak over time on your entry and exit lines but you are starting to learn the clipping points mid-corner. Keep it up! You just need to apply this on every corner.

Extra - You tend to brake too early and gently. In this example you sort of build to your full strength progressively. This is not really 100% and there is more room to push. Try your best to brake more firmly to begin with and trail off deeper into the corner. You should be able to pick later reference points once you master this. Example

Very nice, your braking points are decent. If anything you do brake slightly early, but that is suited to your level of experience. As you develop we can push those further. There are a few areas we can work on over the coming weeks but you are already making progress.  Braking is critical to set up the whole dynamic of a corner. If you don't get this right it is impossible to make up for it with other areas of driving. Next up is your first racing line technique, good luck and keep knocking out those laps! 💪

Extra - The biggest thing you could work on is carrying minimum speed, mostly through braking later and not lifting off as much through corners. This is giving you a big delta in corner exits. Example

Great to have you onboard and hope you are ready to do some training! The process is super simple. Every two weeks you'll have an assigned task which your instructor will set based on our training schedule. Each task will be an important driving technique that you'll need to master in order to progress to the next discipline.

Having assessed and written hundreds of training plans, Track Titan instructors have analysed our drivers achievements and pitfalls and the results show that a consistent application of the driving techniques is crucial to progressing as a good, fast and safe driver. Therefore, every two weeks you'll be tested for consistency and quality of the chosen technique. If the instructor feels that more time on track is required to progress then no problem, hone your skills, dig deep and you'll soon pass to the next discipline.

We have assigned you a turnover day, the instructors will then assess your driving and provide your score for the assigned task and your progress. This will be vary, but is normally available within one to three days.

Please follow the advice in the assigned task and practice this race technique as much as you can in the next fortnight. Remember, referring back to the reference lap and in particular the telemetry data to see how you need to perform to perfect a skill will aid your progress and competence.

The Instructors will look through the sessions and laps you have completed over the last fourteen days. Priority will be given to hot lapping and time trial laps if available. We understand that with changing conditions (tyre wear, weather, fuel load etc.) the ability to perform consistently and with quality similar to the reference lap alters. This is taken into account with all our assessments. Needless to say, the more laps driven the better your training and practice will be and the better the understanding of your current abilities.

If you have a different motivational goal, please let us know and we'll change it from "Improve driving technique"

Enjoy the training, enjoy the journey.

Yours sincerely,
The Instructors
