Previous Instructor Notes

20/03/2026
Please drive more laps. It isn't possible to get a fair and true reflection of this assessment without at least 30-50 laps being completed. The instructors are ready to help you when you are ready.

Good luck and have fun on track 💪

07/03/2026
Really sorry for the delay on the update.
Still unfortunately not a pass here, but you're close! You're doing well in faster corners, but you can still be smoother in the tighter sections. There, you're quite often using too much steering angle and quickly straightening the wheels. Aim for smoother more calculated movements with the steering wheel like you're often doing in fast corners.
Good luck!

Extra - You're sometimes being too inconsistent with your braking - Example. That can lead to unwanted weight shifts in the car that lower its braking performance. Try to smooth out your braking. That first attack on the brakes needs to be sharp, then maintain the pressure (in longer braking zones) and smoothly trail brake into the corner.
This is better to balance the car at the corner entry and extract more performance from the brakes.

Your braking technique is decent; you've got the timing down pretty well. However, there's still work to be done on how you apply the brakes for smoother control. Your understanding of brake bias is adequate, but there's potential to improve how you use it for better cornering. Keep working on these details.

Extra - Looks like you are slow on the straights. Improving straight-line speed starts with optimising your vehicle's setup: ensure your aero downforce is not too much, look as suspension alignment, and consider gear ratios that favour acceleration and peaks at the top of top gear. Remember, smooth inputs and maintaining momentum are key to shaving off those crucial tenths of a second. Example

----------------------

20/06/2025
Your turn in point was extremely good, there was virtually no drifting towards the corner apex before you fully commit to the turn in. It would have been nice to have seen a few more laps on road courses ;-) This turn in point determines the speed at which you enter a corner. Turning in too early or too late can result in either scrubbing off too much speed or carrying too much speed into the corner, making it difficult to maintain control of the vehicle. You handle this very well and no surprisingly your corner segment times are generally very good.

Extra - You are driving very well and it is interesting to see where you are making slight errors that are eating into your time. You tend to push the gears a little too much, try changing up a little early, this should work well. Also, brake just a little earlier so you aren't so heavy on teh brakes.  This could be seen as a contradiction however, it is an experimental area to see if the late braking is forcing you to think you have to slow more than you actually need to - example

----------------------

06/06/2025
Impressive driving. Your consistency, knowledge of the track and overall racing technique is looking strong. Obviously this is reflected in the lap times. Congratulations. All good drivers will take the time to examine their telemetry. When you are drive so well, sometimes it is hard to see exactly the mistakes that are taking place on track. Just the knowledge that sometime wasn't perfect is keeping you grinding out the laps. This is great and instils needed muscle memory however, we'd advise getting dirty in the telemetry a bit more. Find common issues, or weak corners so when you are next on track you can hone in on needed areas. Train smart and train hard! Good luck.

Extra - By not aiming for the sharpest possible apex, you're losing precious speed mid-corner. It's crucial to make use of every bit of track space available at the entry, apex, and exit points where your vehicle maintains stability. Example

----------------------

24/05/2025
As mentioned in the previous reviews, there are still some fundamental areas that we need to address. The fact that we are going to remain on the 3rd combination assessment a little longer is no major concern and we'll use this time to work out how to advance. The previous review all highlight that consistency and control of your pedal motion needs to be looked at. If possible, try to tighten (increase the pressure needed) to perform an action. For example, increasing the brake pressure required will mean that the motion should become smoother. If the control is too light, smaller changes to your foot position can result in the telemetry pattern that is being displayed.

Extra - As a specific example, your braking often goes from 0-90 then drops to 50-60 and raises and falls as you trail brake. All this change is unsettling the car and can result in slight loss of traction and over braking. Work on this sensitivity and then we look again to see if this is going to help your deltas - example

----------------------

08/05/2025
I feel it is worth trying again at this combination assessment. Advancing further at the moment, won't be useful. We'll pick out key areas for you to practice.

When you review your telemetry it is clear to see that the one major factor that is different from your data to the reference laps of the faster drivers is the smoothess of input. Work on this, it can sometimes just be a matter of relaxing, taking the knowledge that you've learnt and trying to not over think the cornering. Try a few laps and be as smooth as possible. Don't worry about the times too much. We want a smoothness comparable to this reference. It won't be perfect and mechanical differences between pedals can affect this greatly but try to retain a smooth focus - example

Extra - To highlight one specific area that will give you the most gain on your lap times is that you tend to try to brake too late. Compare to the reference lap and bring your braking points away from the corner just a bit so that you have control off the car and can get a control, fast exit. Smoothly - example

----------------------

24/04/2025
We'll give you one more shot at this assignment before we move on. You need to try to pull all you have learnt into one assessment. The lap times you are doing just don't cut it and will fall dramatically if you get all the basics right. Have one more go.

Extra - Biggest issue at the moment is that you are often dropping off the throttle instead of pushing through to 100% throttle, try adjusting your racing line slightly, a little tighter to the apex will really help. Example

----------------------

10/04/2025
It is not uncommon for the third combination assessment to take a while. The main issues are that each segment has a couple of problems that need addressing. Racing line choice was often out and thus setting yourself up for a good exit was at times extremely hard. A lot of invalid laps as well is a sign that you are trying to push yourself just that little bit too much. It is better to drop your pace just a little to get yourself race ready. One exceptional hotlap is great but 20 laps of fast consistent lapping will win you more races. You'll also find that when you have that consistency you'll be able to adapt better from one segment to the next or even within a corner. You'll understand your car better and be able to make micro adjustments with a confidence that brings down your lap times. Train smart and good things will come.
Please can you make sure you are on the latest logger via this link:
https://intercom.help/track-titan/en/articles/7964105-how-do-i-update-my-track-titan-logger

Extra - Here you go too wide in the first part of the complex. This makes the final right much tighter and means you cannot accelerate out early enough. You lose time from this mistake. Compromise in corner complexes is key to the best overall time. Example

----------------------

28/03/2025
Well done, you have successfully completed your setup work. We have to trust you on this as it is a tricky area to assess. Your dedication, hard work, and hopefully new understanding of setups have allowed you to pass this milestone. Your grasp of testing different setups in sim racing demonstrates your commitment to improving your skills. If however you didn't really dabble with the setups, as a bare minimum it shows you the power of analysing your sessions.

Congratulations on your achievement and good luck for your next Combination Assessment.

Extra - Remember your basics, the Mazda is a good example of where it is all too easy to brake too much, heavy braking and a low powered car can really eat into your lap times. Apart from the slight hesitation on exit, staying on the brakes just a little too much at 80-100% power, slowed the car too much - example

Your consistency of reaching 100% throttle as quickly as the reference lap was reasonably good. You are getting the hang of a technique here that many drivers find hard. There is still room for a faster application so keep working on it. Go through the items on the Previous Plans list that you struggle with most and you'll be knocking even more time off your laps.

Extra - Delay getting on the throttle too early, this is causing you to understeer and in turn forcing you to lift off the throttle. Wait a little, then be quicker and smoother with the throttle pedal. Example

----------------------

13/12/2024
Please drive more road tracks. It isn't possible to get a fair and true reflection of this assessment with most of your laps driving on ovals. The instructors are ready to help you when you are ready. Good luck and have fun on track!!

Extra - Avoid hitting the brake pedal multiple times in one braking zone. Ideally you want to hit it firmly to begin with and then ease off as things slow down. Hitting it more than once suggests you broke too early. Example

----------------------

28/11/2024
Your technique has notably advanced, particularly in how fluidly you navigate through most of the course. Remember, this particular plan is notorious for technicality, so caution is key. By keeping your steering, braking, and acceleration smooth, you'll better manage the car's balance. Additionally, maximizing the track's width could further reduce your lap times.

Extra - You get back on the throttle before you have properly apexed this turn. You can see the result of this is that you get pushed wide and understeer on exit. Try your best to wait until the car is rotated around the apex and you are starting to unwind the wheel before getting back on power. Example

----------------------

15/11/2024
Please drive more laps. It isn't possible to get a fair and true reflection of this assessment without at least 30-50 laps being completed. The instructors are ready to help you when you are ready.  Good luck and have fun on track

Extra - Careful not to turn the steering wheel so aggressively, it is much better to slow to the correct speed and then use as minimal steering angle as possible. Excessive steering will scrub the tyres and slow you down as well. Here it looks like you were correcting a slide due to entry oversteer caused by multiple stabs on the brakes whilst turning. Try to be smoother on turn in. Example

----------------------

01/11/2024
Decent use of trail braking, by releasing the brake slowly to help rotate the car around sharper hairpins and get back on the throttle smoothly. This will help shave tenths off your time as you are setting yourself up well for the corner exit. Try also to be a little flexible about the power of your braking, remember of faster corners you can avoid braking all the way to 100%. I would like to see you be a bit smoother with this technique as you are still a bit inconsistent.

Extra - Sometimes you're turning your steering wheel a bit too much, mainly in the tighter corners. This can cause a lot of understeer since you're essentially making the tyres slide on the track - scrubbing speed. Try to reduce your steering input and then slightly turn a little more each lap. Once you see that the car is not responding to your inputs, you've found the tyres' grip limit. Now you only need to stay under that limit. It looks like here you unwind the wheel in a step once you realise this instead of smoothly fixing your mistake. Example

----------------------

18/10/2024
As more skills are added to the combination assessments they naturally become harder. Essentially there are more areas where errors can be seen. You did an extremely good job last week and managed to pass. If you look back at your telemetry you'll be able to spot small improvements that are needed. For example, sometimes just a slight hesitation on the throttle as you accelerate or missing a tight apex.

Extra - You are often lifting off in high speed corners. This is a sign of lack of confidence and commitment. To be fast you have to trust the car and the downforce at speed. Try to stay flat in some of these corners - sometimes it is actually better for stability. Example

----------------------

03/10/2024

Please drive more laps. It isn't possible to get a fair and true reflection of this assessment without at least 30-50 laps being completed.  The instructors are ready to help you when you are ready.  Good luck and have fun on track

Extra - Brake harder and faster even on the fast corners, try a quick dab instead of your currently longer ease on and off, test these two styles. Example

----------------------

06/09/2024
This is a pass. Sometimes you really hit the throttle perfectly. There are a few hesitations but in general you are on the right track. As always, it is about the consistency of this. It is common for throttle work to be a more evolved process. Trickier to master and stay focused. When you achieve a good acceleration point then you'll be half way to achieving the desired smooth acceleration with no lifting off.

Extra - It looks like your steering angle is quite low compared to the reference driver. You might not quite be on the limit of grip - the optimal slip angle. Try to turn the wheel a little more to find the peak grip - but don't go over it. Example

----------------------

22/08/2024
Impressively consistent race times, showcasing your dedication and skill. This consistent performance is a crucial asset as you prepare for your upcoming Combination Assessment. Keep up the great work, it's evident that you're on the right track towards achieving your goals.

Extra - Your biggest weakness at the moment is sometimes using too much brake pressure (and for a longer duration) than necessary. Try to think what type of corner you are entering and how you can optimise by braking differently and tweaking your racing line. Example

----------------------

08/08/2024
Your racing lines are starting to look like you are understanding. In most situations we want to open up the entry and exit of the corner so that when we clip the apex the path we travel has the largest possible radius. This allows you to carry the most possible speed through the corner. There are exceptions, for example in corner complexes, where sometimes a compromise is required. There are still a few corners where you are entering too tight and exiting too narrow, which costs you minimum speed. It's just about a pass but lets keep working on this as you go into the next challenge - Consistency.

Extra - Here you go too deep into the first part of the complex. This makes the final right much tighter and means you cannot accelerate out early enough. You lose time from this mistake. Compromise in complexes is key to the best overall time. Example

----------------------

25/07/2024
Your chicane technique is strong. You demonstrate good mid-corner throttle control and you get on the power well on exit. You could benefit from a wider entry and exit to the complex to carry more speed. Also you might benefit staying tighter in the first part of the chicanes to benefit the exit which is carried onto the following straight. Racing line technique is next.

Extra - In this example you are dropping your minimum speed pretty low on every corner. Try your best to pick up the dips in the esses sections of tracks like Suzuka. You just need a little more confidence to keep your foot pinned in some of the tricky sections. Example

----------------------

11/07/2024
A good combination assessment. There were many good laps exhibited and the majority of the racing skills learnt have been displayed on multiple segments. There were some areas where improvements are needed and these will lower your lap times. Firstly, work hard at those braking points. If there is one area that needs to be studied and perfected, this is the most useful. Secondly, there are a number of times that your gear choice could be improved. Learning really comes from driving, analysing and then driving again until you feel you've reached a wall then analysing again. This habit will really help you improve as quickly as possible.

Extra - You are a little slow through the mid-corner of the chicanes. Try not to slow up so much as you make the turns. This will help you exit as you don't have to put as much acceleration in to get off the corner. Example

----------------------

29/06/2024
Good corner gear choices. Sometimes you are one gear higher than the reference lap, try testing with the different cars that you drive whether you have the control dropping one gear lower. Try and compare the deltas to get a feeling for whether there is a big difference on your lap times. So you've reached a milestone - well done! Your next weeks training, will be assessed on how well you perform with all the plans that you have driven so far. You are currently doing really well and should find this straight forward, just strive to increase your consistency and push for slightly quicker lap times. Good luck! Time to bring all that you've learnt together now in the next assessment....

Extra - You brake a little hard in this segment. This means your apex speed is slower than it should be - so you end up carrying this speed deficit onto the next straight. Example

----------------------

13/06/2024
Your braking is looking excellent. There are places you could improve but in general you follow the power and speed of the reference driver well. Try to be a bit smoother on the pedal and avoid pumping the brake which can unsettle the car. Keep it up and look forward to reviewing your gearing next.

Extra - Try to avoid taking too many stabs at the brake pedal, Ideally you want to be able to just press the pedal firmly once in the braking zone and then smoothly blending off. Taking multiple stabs at the pedal can really rock the car when you need stability. Example

----------------------

31/05/2024
Okay, you are hitting most of your apex's. The smoother you can be with your racing line the more you can distribute grip to all four tyres. There are a few areas you can tweak over time on your entry and exit lines but you are starting to learn the clipping points mid-corner. Keep it up! You just need to apply this on every corner.

Extra - Sometimes it may not be beneficial to downshift so you need to stay in gear. This can help keep the car more stable under braking and when under traction. The downshift on entry may have also been the reason you missed the apex. Example

----------------------

17/05/2024
Very nice, your braking points are sharp and spot on most of the time. Important! Be careful how much pressure you apply on fast sweeping corners, it is important not to loose too much speed by braking too heavily.

Next up is your first racing line technique, good luck and keep knocking out those laps! 💪

Extra - You are braking well but it is important to be aware that 'over' braking i.e. braking for too long is going to affect your times. Take a look at the braking chart and you'll see that you braking point and power are good but you remain at 100% braking too long. This is slowing the car too much and losing your time - example

----------------------

11/05/2024
Great to have you onboard and hope you are ready to do some training! The process is super simple. Every two weeks you'll have an assigned task which your instructor will set based on our training schedule. Each task will be an important driving technique that you'll need to master in order to progress to the next discipline.

Having assessed and written hundreds of training plans, Track Titan instructors have analysed our drivers achievements and pitfalls and the results show that a consistent application of the driving techniques is crucial to progressing as a good, fast and safe driver. Therefore, every two weeks you'll be tested for consistency and quality of the chosen technique. If the instructor feels that more time on track is required to progress then no problem, hone your skills, dig deep and you'll soon pass to the next discipline.

We have assigned you a turnover day, the instructors will then assess your driving and provide your score for the assigned task and your progress. This will be vary, but is normally available within one to three days.

Please follow the advice in the assigned task and practice this race technique as much as you can in the next fortnight. Remember, referring back to the reference lap and in particular the telemetry data to see how you need to perform to perfect a skill will aid your progress and competence.

The Instructors will look through the sessions and laps you have completed over the last fourteen days. Priority will be given to hot lapping and time trial laps if available. We understand that with changing conditions (tyre wear, weather, fuel load etc.) the ability to perform consistently and with quality similar to the reference lap alters. This is taken into account with all our assessments. Needless to say, the more laps driven the better your training and practice will be and the better the understanding of your current abilities.

If you have a different motivational goal, please let us know and we'll change it from "Improve driving technique"

Enjoy the training, enjoy the journey.

Yours sincerely,
The Instructors
