Conclusion

Trying to force later braking points to reduce lap time leads to major mistakes which would ruin races.

1st key mistake:

Braking too late

Why it matters

You often brake a tad later than the reference lap which means you overshoot the corner and lose a ton of time on the exit and gain very little on the entry. Try to be more patient and see where the reference laps brakes to optimise your braking point.

How much of a problem it is for you

This mistake happens a lot; in fact, almost 17% of your mistakes can be attributed to this.

A good example can be found in segment 8. Hover over the speed chart and watch the gears change on the little steering wheel to see the difference.

2nd key mistake:

Running too wide out of the first part of a chicane

Why it matters

Generally speaking, you should focus on the second part of a chicane to maximise your exit speed. That is easier said than done as it requires a lot of patience in the first section.

However, the benefit is massive as you gain an advantage on your competition down the following straight.

How much of a problem it is for you

With almost 17% of all of your mistakes being this one, it is as frequent a problem as braking too late.

For instance, see how much you gain in the first part of segment 5's chicane compared to the reference lap. You then lose much more than that through the second part.

3rd key mistake:

Being at full throttle too late

Why it matters

The earlier you are at full throttle, the better. It is faster to wait to be back on the throttle initially if it enables you to get to full throttle sooner.

How much of a problem it is for you

A bit more than 11% of your mistakes are related to this so it's worth paying a lot of attention to.

See an example in your own sessions

Check out how you lose two tenths in one simple, fast corner just by being at full throttle later in segment 10.

Luckily, this is a common mistake so we made a video guide for it which you can access here.
