Fred Davis - Training Plan No. 7

Goal
Improve overall speed.

Conclusion
Really good to see your training efforts. The biggest win for your lap times will be sorting your speed to 100% braking.
Assigned Task
It is good to see that you've moved onto Imola for further practice with the Ferrari 599XX EVO. Stay with this track for the time being. Plenty of practice get hard on to the brakes. See the comment in Learn from from first mistake. Test how the car feels with ABS on and off, use the long straight and practice aggressive braking and accelerating.

1st key mistake:
Pressing the brake pedal to slowly
Why it matters
Similar to last week. The braking is still costing you time on quite a few corners.
How much of a problem it is for you
19% of your errors are linked to slow speed of braking.
See an example in your own sessions
Examine your graph on segment 1, there is room to be more aggressive with your braking phase.

This could be linked to your setup, if you feel that you are doing everything possible to brake quickly but you are still struggling to match the reference lap. An option is to lower the pressure required to hit 100% braking on your loadcell pedals. You'll still be able to trail brake just the fidelity will be slightly less. Over time, if necessary, it can be increase. Definitely worth looking at.

2nd key mistake:
Not trail braking
Why it matters
This will probably appear as one of your three main mistakes over the coming weeks. An important skill to learn and hard to master and main consistency.
How much of a problem it is for you
At least 15% of your mistakes are related to trail braking.

Please check out segment 6, it is evident that you are trying to perform a trail brake however the foot is also applying pressure instead of always reducing pressure. All benefits of trail braking are lost with this extra applications.

This video is another take on how to use your brakes to actually drive faster. Trail braking will only start to 'click' when you feel how the car is reacting to your braking. Subtle pressure changes on the brake pedal will be felt as the car develops its rotation.

3rd key mistake:
Too late to full throttle
Why it matters
A mistake that has surfaced again from your third training plan.
How much of a problem it is for you
at 10% this is also important to analyse.

Check out the chicane in segment 4, each part of the chicane (as it isn't too aggressive) can be pushed further and earlier with the throttle. You are applying the throttle perfectly at the apex, however, this is an occasion where earlier gas will shed half a second at least off this one segment.

Here is a tutorial for chicane technique that can be useful to understand. Your technique is generally good in chicanes but there might be a couple of pointers for you.
